FRUITDALE, AL A tire blowout on a semi-truck caused a crash on County Road 62 approximately 2 miles west of Fruitdale approximately 2:15 a.m. on Saturday.

According to Mobile County Sheriff's Office, the semi-truck was traveling eastbound on County Road 62 when a front tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control.

The truck veered off the roadway and went into a ditch. light drizzle at the time.

The driver, a 35-year-old Kentucky woman, was transported to Mobile Infirmary with serious injuries. The driver of a following vehicle reported minor injuries from debris.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records indicate tire-related failures are among the leading causes of commercial vehicle accidents nationwide.

McIntosh Volunteer Fire Department responded along with EMS from Jackson Medical Center. County Road 62 was partially blocked for approximately 3 hours.

The truck was carrying construction materials. Mobile County Sheriff's Office is investigating whether improper tire maintenance or overloading contributed to the blowout.
