COFFEEVILLE, AL — A pedestrian was struck by a hazmat tanker on State Route 69 near Coffeeville around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) reports the pedestrian was checking a mailbox when the hazmat tanker struck them on State Route 69 at the sharp curve near Tibbie.
The pedestrian, a 53-year-old Tibbie resident, was transported to Washington County Hospital in Chatom with critical injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

Tibbie Volunteer Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene. State Route 69 was closed for approximately 6 hours during the investigation.
The driver, a 41-year-old Georgia man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The crash is under investigation by Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). No charges have been filed at this time.
