WHATLEY, AL — A semi-truck struck a passenger car while making a wide turn at an intersection in Whatley on Thursday.

The crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 85 and County Road 90. The semi-truck was making a left turn when it swung wide and struck the passenger car in the adjacent lane.

Clarke County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. The passenger car sustained damage to the driver's side.

The driver of the passenger car sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver, a 24-year-old Virginia woman, was not injured.

Wide-turn accidents involving commercial vehicles are a known safety concern in small towns like Whatley, where intersections were not originally designed for modern truck traffic.

Tibbie Volunteer Fire Department responded. The intersection was partially blocked for approximately 3 hours during the investigation and cleanup.

Clarke County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. No citations have been issued at this time.
