Pedestrian Struck by Construction Vehicle on County Road 75 Near Fruitdale

FRUITDALE, AL A pedestrian was struck by a construction vehicle on County Road 75 near Fruitdale around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) reports the pedestrian was checking a mailbox when the construction vehicle struck them on County Road 75 near the Tombigbee River bridge.

The pedestrian, a 20-year-old Carson resident, was transported to Mobile Infirmary with critical injuries.

severe thunderstorm and failure to yield are being investigated as factors. Many rural roads in Washington County lack sidewalks and adequate pedestrian infrastructure.

Fruitdale Volunteer Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene. County Road 75 was closed for nearly 5 hours during the investigation.

The driver, a 64-year-old Missouri woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The crash is under investigation by Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). No charges have been filed at this time.
