CITRONELLE, AL — An overloaded dump truck was cited after crashing on County Road 50 near Citronelle on Monday.
Clarke County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash around 6:15 p.m. on County Road 50 at the narrow stretch near Calvert. The dump truck failed to stop at an intersection.
Upon inspection, the truck was found to be carrying approximately 18 thousand pounds over its rated weight limit. The truck was hauling poultry.
The driver, a 66-year-old Mississippi man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.
The driver was cited for operating an overweight vehicle and failure to obey traffic signs. The trucking company may face additional fines from FMCSA.
Wagarville Volunteer Fire Department responded. County Road 50 was closed for approximately 6 hours.
Overweight trucks are a persistent problem on Washington County roads, contributing to accelerated pavement deterioration and increasing the risk of crashes, according to ALDOT.
