MT. VERNON, AL — A double trailer rig was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on County Road 78 near Mt. Vernon shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Clarke County Sheriff's Office reports 6 vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction crash on County Road 78 near the gravel pit entrance. The incident began when the double trailer rig struck a vehicle changing lanes.
heavy rain and driving under the influence are believed to be contributing factors. The crash created a debris field spanning approximately 110 yards.
1 people were transported to Mobile Infirmary with injuries ranging from minor to serious. No fatalities were reported.
St. Stephens Volunteer Fire Department responded with multiple units. EMS crews from across the county were called to assist with the response.
County Road 78 was closed in both directions for nearly 8 hours. ALDOT set up detour routes through local roads through Fruitdale.
The crash is under investigation by Clarke County Sheriff's Office. Witnesses are asked to contact the agency's Highway Patrol Division.
