WASHINGTON COUNTY, AL — A multi-agency search is underway for a missing hiker who was last seen near the Tombigbee River in southern Washington County on Friday.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office is coordinating the search with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and volunteer search teams.
The hiker was reported missing after failing to return from a planned day hike along a riverside trail around 6:30 a.m..
Search crews are utilizing K-9 units, drones, and watercraft to cover the heavily wooded and swampy terrain.
Anyone with information about the missing individual is asked to contact the Washington County Sheriff's Office immediately.
Emergency Management officials remind hikers to always inform someone of their planned route and expected return time.
