LEROY, AL — A Leroy beekeeper has been named Alabama Beekeeper of the Year by the Alabama Beekeepers Association.
The award recognizes outstanding contributions to apiculture, including bee colony management and community education.
The beekeeper manages over 93 hives across Washington County, producing honey sold at local markets and shops.
In addition to commercial production, the beekeeper conducts educational workshops for school groups and community organizations.
Washington County's diverse flora and mild climate make it well-suited for beekeeping, and the practice has been growing in popularity.
The Alabama Beekeepers Association presented the award at its annual conference.
