FRUITDALE, AL — A reported gas leak in Wagarville forced the evacuation of several homes on Monday as emergency crews worked to locate and repair the source.
The Washington County Volunteer Fire Department and local utility crews responded to reports of a strong gas odor around 6:45 p.m..
As a precaution, approximately 1 homes within a two-block radius were evacuated while crews assessed the situation.
Utility workers identified a damaged gas line and made repairs within several hours. Residents were allowed to return after the area was cleared.
