Freight Hauler Crash in Low Visibility on County Road 41 Leaves 1 Injured

GILBERTOWN, AL 1 person was injured when a freight hauler crashed on County Road 41 in low visibility conditions on Thursday night.

The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on County Road 41 approximately 2 miles west of Fruitdale. tropical moisture severely reduced visibility in the area. The freight hauler ran off the road into a drainage ditch.

Washington County Sheriff's Office responded. The injured were transported to Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville.

The driver, a 51-year-old Kentucky woman, was not injured. Two additional vehicles sustained minor damage while avoiding the crash scene.

Rural Washington County roads lack adequate lighting and many have no reflective markers. Safety officials have repeatedly called for improved nighttime visibility measures.

St. Stephens Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene. County Road 41 was affected for nearly 8 hours.

The accident is under investigation. Washington County Sheriff's Office reminds commercial vehicle operators to reduce speed in poor visibility conditions.
