WASHINGTON COUNTY, AL — The Town of Chatom has received state funding for a major upgrade to its wastewater treatment plant.
The project will modernize the aging facility to meet current environmental standards and accommodate future growth.
The upgrade includes new aeration systems, clarifiers, and monitoring equipment.
Town officials said the improvements are critical for protecting water quality in local streams and the Tombigbee River watershed.
The project is expected to cost approximately $25,000 and will be funded through a combination of grants and low-interest loans.
Construction is expected to begin in the coming months with completion targeted for the following year.
