THOMASVILLE, AL — A cement mixer crashed in an active construction zone on County Road 10 near Thomasville on Sunday, causing significant traffic delays.
The crash occurred around 11:15 p.m. in an ALDOT construction zone on County Road 10 at the narrow stretch near Calvert. The cement mixer lost control on loose gravel in the work zone.
Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) reports hours-of-service violation may have been a factor. Construction workers were present but no workers were injured.
The driver, a 56-year-old Louisiana man, was transported to USA Health University Hospital in Mobile in stable condition. Two additional vehicles sustained minor damage while avoiding the crash scene.
ALDOT has been conducting bridge repair on the stretch of County Road 10 for several months.
Vinegar Bend Volunteer Fire Department responded. The construction zone was shut down for nearly 8 hours. ALDOT said the project timeline is not expected to be significantly affected.
Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) reminds drivers to slow down and stay alert in construction zones. Fines are doubled for traffic violations in active work zones.
