Box Truck Jackknifes on State Route 17 South of the Tombigbee River Crossing

THOMASVILLE, AL A box truck jackknifed on State Route 17 south of the Tombigbee River crossing just before noon on Friday, causing injuring 2 people.

According to Mobile County Sheriff's Office, the box truck was traveling northbound on State Route 17 when the driver lost control south of the Tombigbee River crossing. The truck jackknifed across both lanes of traffic, blocking the roadway.

severe thunderstorm at the time of the crash may have been a contributing factor. Investigators noted road debris as a possible cause.

The driver, a 28-year-old Kentucky woman, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.

State Route 17 was closed in both directions for approximately 3 hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage. sodium hydrosulfide from the truck was scattered across the roadway.

Leroy Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene along with Mobile County Sheriff's Office troopers and EMS personnel from Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation. Mobile County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact their office.
